2012 – Student Feedback
Feedback received for the 2012 edition of the summer school Frontiers in Neurophotonics:
This summer school experience was absolutely wonderful from both an academic and a networking perspective. The researchers and students of the Neurophotonics Centre are clearly enthousiastic about their work and the cutting-edge technologies, which is contagious and motivating.
Starlee Lively, Toronto Western Research Institute, Toronto, Canada
Overall, a very useful school and simply put, it was a career-changing opportunity for me.
Katrina Choe, McGill University, Montreal, QC, Canada
I was extremely pleased how the summer school was organized: from the breadth of knowledge acquired (spanning from fundamental principles in optics to advanced/contemporary techniques), the hands-on technical skills obtained, and the opportunity to interact with both students and PI’s with varying expertise (and also at an International scale!). I was also fond of the course layout; the days are jaw-packed lectures/modules/ analysis – but that’s why we came here! It is a nice balance (in 1.5 weeks), as opposed to other summer schools that way last upwards of months, which may be excessive. I can’t write of anything that should be changed – it was very polished/complete.

Very good summer school. Organization is amazing.
Anaël Chazeau, Université de Bordeaux, France
I am very happy with how things turned out during the school. There were lots of interactions with people from different disciplines and backgrounds/levels, so all this was very enriching.
Zoé Husson, École Normale Supérieure, Paris, France
The school was fantastic & certainly brought me up-to-date on the technicals and applications of many modern techniques.
Michael-John Dolan, University of Cambridge, UK
Overall, I am very satisfied with the course. I really appreciate the help and attention from those professors who are busy but still are patient! I will suggest my labmates to come!
Yicheng Xie, University of British Columbia, Vancouver, BC, Canada
I was very impressed with the course and my expectations were surpassed. I met a lot of great people and learned so much information. The course was well organized and provided tremendous opportunities for the students. Overall, it was a fantastic course and I would highly recommend it to anyone interested in microscopy.
Generally, I really enjoyed this summer school. And it is exciting to learn all the hands-on experiments!
Ziliang Mao, University of California in Davis, USA
The school is excellent and very informative. It covers a wide range of theoretical and practical aspects of advanced live imaging technology. Coupling the hands-on experiments with the lectures helps visualizing and understanding the theoretical concepts.
Ihab Dahou, McGill University, Montreal, Qc, Canada
Great, great, great! I’m beyond thankful for the opportunity to be here. Not only everyone was encouraging and motivating scientifically, but also they treated us like friends. This has been by far one of the best experiences in my scientific career. I just hope to be back at some point and I’ll be the best publicity in NY!
Karina Alvina, Albert Einstein College of Medicine, New York, USA
A fantastic journey on the interdisciplinary world of physics and biology. Great equipment and space. I wanna move to Quebec to do experiments!
