Key researcher: Timothy Murphy
The University of British Columbia is home to many researchers that use optogenetic tools to study the brain and nervous system.
Timothy Murphy studies the effect of stroke on the connectivity of neurons in the brain of live animals.  He is developing techniques to view brain activity in animals as they accomplish specific tasks.
These technically difficult studies require custom made optogenetic tools that will be made by the production nodes of the platform, and that can be optimized for the specific needs of the experimental design.
Timothy Murphy’s expertise in using optogenetic tools in live animals performing specific tasks makes him uniquely capable of testing optogenetic tools and providing feedback to production nodes to show the types of tools and the characteristics these tools should have to be most useful for in vivo work.
